Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in September 2020 were 9.4 million metric tons (Mt), a slight decrease from shipments in September 2019, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through September totaled 76.7 Mt, a slight increase from those for the same period in 2019.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in September 2020 were, in descending order, Missouri, Texas, California, Florida and Michigan; these states accounted for 39% of cement produced.
The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and New York) received 37% of September shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled 208,000 metric tons in September 2020, essentially unchanged from those in September 2019. Shipments for the year through September totaled 1.8 Mt, a 2% decrease from those for the same period in 2019. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in September 2020 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Tennessee; these states received 56% of September shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 6.9 Mt in September 2020, a slight increase from production in September 2019. Production for the year through September totaled 57.6 Mt, essentially unchanged from that for the same period in 2019. The leading clinker-producing states in September 2020 were, in descending order, Missouri, Texas, California, Florida and Alabama.
